Lately, we are seeing a trend of using bad words and showing heroism in our communities. Unfortunately, our youngsters are believing that the one who can use the dirtiest slang word is the dominating. And the one who can damage you heavily is the strengthiest. And one of the wrong justifications we give to ourselves is, the other person has made a mistake and he deserves this. Most of us go ahead and even to takfir on other Muslims, and call them kafir.
In this article, we would like to bring some attention to some of the most common mistakes happening these days in our society in the light of Quran & Sunnah.
1. Using Slang Words:
Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Amr: Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said. “It is one of the greatest sins that a man should curse his parents.” It was asked (by the people), “O Allah’s Prophet! How does a man curse his parents?” The Prophet said, “‘The man abuses the father of another man and the latter abuses the father of the former and abuses his mother.” (Bukhari)
In general terms, the hadith means that a person is abusing his own father by abusing the father of another person. And he is abusing his own mother, by abusing the mother of another person.
2. Causing Damage to Other Muslims:
Unfortunately, many people these days think. Causing damage to others is the right punishment for the sin/mistake they commit. The damage can be physical, emotional or character assassination. Especially when the person is good and genuinely might have done a mistake, we don’t tend to forgive.
It is not heroism to attack a person who is already suffering. Heroism is to support the suffering and protect them. For example, the act of mob lynching where 10’s of people attack a single person is sheer cowardice and not an act of heroism.
In Islam, supporting someone in trouble has one of the greatest rewards. And that is Allah will protect them.
“Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. Whoever alleviates [the situation of] one in dire straits who cannot repay his debt, Allah will alleviate his lot in both this world and in the Hereafter. Whoever conceals [the faults of] a Muslim, Allah will conceal [his faults] in this life and the Hereafter. (Muslim)
In the Quran, Allah (swt) says: “Help one another in acts of piety and righteousness. And do not assist each other in acts of sinfulness and transgression. And be aware of Allah. Verily, Allah is severe in punishment” (Quran 5:2).
3. Doing Takfir
Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) said, “He who says to his brother ‘O disbeliever’, then one of them is a disbeliever.” (Bukhari)
It means, when we call a Muslim kafir, then surely one of them is a kafir. And we really don’t know who is more pious in the eyes of Allah. Hence, we have to always restrain from this and even if we had said to someone, we should immediately repent and read shahadah again.
What is the real heroism?
1. The real heroism is to respect our Muslim brothers and sisters.
2. Help the struggling families to earn a proper lively hood.
3. Respect the women in society.
4. Ensure the boys are educated and properly settled in their career.
5. Ensure the girls are married to settled boys.
6. Help orphans with the needy things.
7. Free the prisoners (none of us thinks about this). We are taking a special initiative to free the prisoners by arranging the lawyers and bail fees.
8. Live a greater impact on other communities so that they like Islam
9. Feed the poor
